After two weeks with lighter coverage, The Televerse is back with another lengthy dive into the current TV landscape. First up, Noel and Kate tackle the week’s comedy and reality programming, from The Ranch Part 3, to the premieres of Wrecked, The Great British Bake Off, Hollywood Game Night, and The Gong Show, to the latest thought-provoking installment of Independent Lens. Next up are the genre and drama offerings, including the premieres of The Mist and Queen Sugar, the finales of American Gods and The Handmaid’s Tale, and new entries from Wynonna Earp, iZombie, Claws, and Twin Peaks. Afterwards, friend of the show and contributor to Vulture and The New York Times Angelica Jade Bastién returns to break down The Handmaid’s Tale with Kate, looking at the decision to adapt the famous novel over multiple seasons, how the series approaches race, and other questions prompted by the first season.

Kate is slacking once again, so for the second week in a row, The Televerse presents a reasonably-sized episode of TV talk. A few more weeks of this, and Noel will never go back to our marathon sessions! We kick things off this week with our weeks in comedy and reality, including the finales of Angie Tribeca and Bob’s Burgers, a guest star-filled Veep, an intergalactic Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, a beauty-centered The Carmichael Show, and this season’s antepenultimate RuPaul’s Drag Race. Next up are the genre and drama offerings, with Noel taking point and giving his thoughts on the premiere of TNT’s Claws, season five of Orange is the New Black, and new episodes of American Gods and iZombie, before Kate joins back in to discuss the season two premiere of Wynonna Earp. Then to round out the podcast, we change things up a bit by spotlighting National Geographic’s gripping and informative documentary, Hell on Earth: The Fall of Syria and the Rise of ISIS.

This episode, before checking in on our 2017 TV Resolutions, Noel and Kate take a look at the week’s comedy and reality, including the return of The Carmichael Show, another strong Angie Tribeca, the finale of The Amazing Race, and quite possibly the best makeover episode in RuPaul’s Drag Race herstory. Then we head over to the genre offerings, including a catch-up on Doctor Who, another mixed American Gods, an iZombie episode with at least a +4 in Charm Person, and the latest beautifully emotional Steven Universe mini-bomb. Afterward, it’s time to update our progress with our 2017 TV Resolutions to watch more anime (Noel) and YouTube series (Kate), with looks at Attack on Titan, Sakura Quest, and Her Story.
